This is too funny....
It's time to "phase out" Osceola and Renegade...

"We all love what Osceola and Renegade have meant to the University over the
years, they are without doubt, the most famous mascot in college
athletics.
However, times change. Osceola and Renegade
have had a good run, and are still popular, but lets get real
here...
It's just too expensive to keep a live horse for home games and
bowl games. Also, neither can travel to our regular season road games, leaving
us with no mascot presence on the road.
Add to that the amount of money
we spend on kerosene to light the spear and on hay to feed the horse.
Not to mention how difficult it is for Nike to reproduce this image on
merchandise.
Therefore, in close consultation with the Seminole tribe,
FSUTPX, and other offcials from Nike, I'm proud to announce our new football
mascot: Cimarron!
Starting this fall, in lieu of Osceola and Renegade
planting the spear at pregame, Cimarron will run out of smoke (provided by fire
extinguishers) to the new seminole logo at midfield and conduct a "garnet!"
"gold!" cheerleading routine with the home crowd.
This will be similar
to what you see at UF home games, but tweaked by Nike to fit our needs. Nike
swears by this routine as a crowd pleaser and we are confident it will grow on
all of us.
The financial impacts of this change will be positive for FSU
and Nike for years to come.
The Cimarron logo is easy and cheap to
reproduce, and while Osceola and Renegade were limited to the field, Cimarron
will be everywhere!
We at FSU recognize that the change will take some
getting used to. But Nike has assured us that we will love the new mascot and
pregame routine in no time.
We believe that now is the time to
capitalize on FSU's recent national championship and heisman trophy.
In
this new world of sports marketing you must adapt or die. We believe this is
the right time and the right adaptation.
Go Noles, and Go Nike!
