More evidence ACC is 3rd in TV ratings even though last in revenue

Thank you for posting the ratings. I went week by week through championship game week 14. Admittedly, it's arbitrary but I counted the 5 highest rated games each week for each of the Power-5 conferences. Games in which conferences had 2 teams in the game only counted as one game since there is still only one game to watch. All conferences had multiple games in which it was only their teams playing. When you average out the number of times each conference had a game in the top-5 ratings over the 14 weeks here are the results -
ACC - 1.14
B1G - 1.79
Big 12 - .79
Pac12 - .50
SEC - 1.5
Admittedly, it's an imperfect interpretation, but at least there is some mathematical logic. If you simply took the above stats and paid out in relation to hoe many times the conferences had a game in the top-5 ratings each week, then the acc should receive:
64% of what the B1G receives
44% more than the Big-12 receives
128% more than the Pac-12 receives
76% of what the sec receives
*ND was not counted as an acc member
Other conferences and Independents did make the top 5 a couple times. Game week was in the top 5 a couple times, but not included as a top 5 watched game. Instead, I only included games. The B1G was the only conference to have at least one game in the top-5 ratings every week. As the numbers suggest, the Big-12 and Pac-12 put up a lot of goose eggs.
In short, the ACC is most certainly getting short changed, and that was even in a year where FSU played almost all noon games, and brought little to the table for the conference.
It is clear to me that our own fans have set expectations too low. There seems to be an inferiority complex that dissuades many from the facts they know are true. If even our own fans won't tout the acc's accomplishments, then how can we expect to be paid for them? The facts are that we have done it on the field. We have beaten the sec head to head 2 of the last 3 years in football. FSU beat Auburn for the natty. Clemson beat Nana for the natty. And, when it comes to eyeballs watching games last year here is how it shakes out:
When comparing number of times conferences finish in the top-5 most watched games the acc should earn -
64% of what the B1G makes
44% more than the Big-12 makes
128% more than the Pac-12 makes
76% of what the SEC makes
When comparing for all football games watched the acc deserves -
81.2% of what the B1G makes
52% more than the Big-12
44% more than the Pac-12
72.3% of what the SEC makes
That is from a year in which the ACC's traditionally most watched team (FSU) was extremely down and played many noon games. It is not reasonable to expect FSU to be that bad, nor are ratings for their games expected to be that low. Reasonable expectations for this year's games against VT, ND, Clemson, and Miami should be for at least the top 2 or 3 games those weeks. Even the NC St game was a top game last year. Not our fault the gators suck.
