I just got back from the latest FSU Design & Construction meeting. Nothing major to talk about that wasn't already known but there are a few small tidbits that might be of interest.
FSU has acquired a few properties near Westcott. Namely, they now own Bill's Bookstore and it's assumed that it will be re-branded to the FSU Bookstore. Also acquired in this area are two adjacent properties, 530 W College Ave (former Sigma Nu house). It will likely be demolished. Right nextdoor, they've acquired the former Christian Campus Fellowship building, an old Victorian style house at 524 W College. They aren't sure if it'll be demo'd or re-purposed.
They also acquired the location of the Church's Chicken on Lake Bradford Rd, which has already been demolished. And they have acquired the basement level of the Kleman Plaza condos, which could be used for something pretty interesting.
Finally, they've leased 2139 Maryland Circle, out in the NW quadrant of town just south of I-10 and near the FedEx distro facility. It's just a temporary lease but it may turn into an acquisition.
Expect lots of road closures around FSU this summer. A chill water line is going in under Woodward Ave to serve the new EOAS building as well as the eventual new Student Union. This will also close access the bookstore parking garage. Additionally, the portion of Academic Way that runs under Woodward will be closed in order to lower the roadway to increase the clearance for trucks and such. It's at 11' 3" right now and needs to be expanded. And finally, Chieftain Way from Call to Academic will be closed this summer for the demolition of Smith Hall. I suspect this is what the movement around the former Kellum site is related to, because there are currently no plans to build anything on Kellum's footprint.
Azalea Hall will be ready for students to move in this Summer C semester, and Magnolia for fall. The dining facility in the ground floor of Azalea was supposed to open in summer as well, but with the University's transition to Sodexho for dining services it may be delayed to open with the start of fall semester.
An Amazon Pickup Point location is going in on the ground floor of Parking Garage 1, in currently unoccupied former University Business Administration space. It should open by October. This will be great for the students and faculty/staff that are on-campus all day anyway. In an adjacent space, there are initial discussions to open a bakery concept of some sort.
