FSU's uniforms "misguided"?

Yup....sadly, Nike have made FSU's uniforms worse.  I'm OK with change....often it's better.

Not in FSU's case here.

8/2 Entry at 12 p.m. -- Athlon's Top 25 Uniforms for 2016

"Athlon Sports released their list of College Football's Top 25 Uniforms for 2016 yesterday and it may surprise some fans where they had the Noles ranked and the reasons given why.
The top three spots probably aren't very surprising being held by teams with classic looks in Michigan, Southern Cal and Notre Dame. Oregon's flashy and innovative uniforms make the list at the #5 spot.
2014 saw Florida State make the most dramatic changes in their uniforms and helmets in decades. So after seeing the changes on the field for two seasons, where does Athlon rank the Noles heading into 2016 if out of the top 5? Top 10 right? Top 15?! Top 20?!

Athlon ranks our uniforms all the way down at #21, barely on the list at all and behind the likes of Clemson, Iowa, East Carolina, Oklahoma State, Colorado, North Carolina, Tennessee, Boise State and even Old Dominion among others. Here is what they had to say:
21. Florida State
Florida State’s uniforms would be even higher on this list if the athletic department didn’t outthink itself and tinker with classics two years ago. While the “new” helmet is almost identical to the old one, the updated trim on the jerseys is a serious downgrade from what the ‘Noles wore before the misguided update.

Those harsh words may come as quite the shock to Seminoles fans. Since the earliest days of ranking football uniforms and helmets in the internet age, Florida State fans have always taken pride in always being at least in the top ten of of these types of rankings and most often in the top five.
In 2008, Florida State won in a landslide for the best helmet in the nation in ESPN's first ever helmet clash tournament. A helmet which debuted in Bobby Bowden's first year at FSU in 1976 and had changed very little since then. In the final round, FSU beat out Alabama with 78.2% of the vote to capture the title of the best helmet (video) in all of college football.
Last November, USA Today released their list of the Top 10 Best Uniforms/Helmets in College Football and Florida State failed to make an appearance on their list at all. Not even as one of the eight honorable mentions so could not have ranked any higher than #19 had it been a top 25 list.
It is safe to say Florida State seems to have trended in the wrong direction on these lists since making the 2014 changes, at least in the eyes of those making these rankings.
If there is a silver lining in Athlon's list, a certain school out east and another down south do not make the list at all. Not even as an honorable mention. "

  1. The new trim is better. The ONLY thing wrong with the uniform is the gold numbers on our home jerseys. That looks tacky and cheap. That's ok for BC but not for FSU.

The only other thing that I'd like to see tweaked is the trim on the sleeves. I'd prefer it to be narrower. If it were the width of the collar trim I think it'd be on point.
