FSU Oympics

The 2016 Rio Olympics are officially underway already, though our flag-waving ways really get started on Friday night with the opening ceremony. As each country parades its delegation around for the world to see, college sports fans everywhere will recognize the faces of some of their favorite current and former athletes.
No fans have more reason to be excited to see their schools represented on the world's biggest stage than the ones out west in the Pac-12, which dwarfs all other conferences with 273 current or former athletes in the 2016 Rio Olympics. The foursome of California Golden Bears , Southern California Trojans , Stanford Cardinal and UCLA Bruins hold the top spots on the list of most-represented schools. In fact, those four schools alone have more Olympians combined than any other individual conference other than the SEC.
Check out the top 25 most-represented schools below, followed by a ranking of the Power Five conferences with the top schools from each league included.
All numbers via official league releases as of Aug. 3, 2016.

We have more than that really if you include all those who were here at some point or another. We aren't counting Sage Watson and Cejhae Greene for example since they transferred (Arizona & UGA), but they spent years here before transferring. Longer than a guy like Bracy so if we're going to count him we should count them too imo.

  1. Pretty nice feather in FSU's cap.

Those Cali schools are nuts, but that's what happens when you sponsor a ton of sports.

Speaking of a ton of sports, Ohio State really underwhelms with their presence considering the number of sports they offer and the quality of their AD (#2 in Director's Cup this year).

    1. Great points. Side note. FSU's Track program, a once dominant program, has fallen off the cliff (mens #64 recently), despite the great showing in the Olympics. I hope that program turns around quick. Cause UF is crushing them.

    2. It's frightening how precipitous the year over year dip was after axing our top two track/xc assistants.

Another year outside the top 25 (based on recruiting it seems possible) and we need to fire our coach. Idc if he won 3-straight national titles, as HC you can't force out your top 2 assistants, TANK the program and still expect us to have your back.

I don't trust Wilcox to do anything as our AD, so I'm honestly afraid of how this will play out. But it's a crucial test for him. If he fails it, he should probably leave with Braman (if Braman continues to suck). Fwiw, how Wilcox handles Hamilton and Martin's retirements are also vital to his "legacy" as AD and will determine his future job security.

Two rather shocking things about FSU's Olympians are that women's soccer doesn't have anyone represented despite all of our success. And I don't recall any women getting any significant burn on the senior national team at all since I started following them a decade+ ago. The other surprise is that our beach volleyball representative is a dude when we don't even have a men's indoor team let alone a men's beach team.

    3. Very much agreed re: Braman and Wilcox...and everything else.

Ironically, just ran across this, if you weren't already aware:

.@NicklucenaFSU & @PhilDalhausser begin their quest for gold today at 3:30 ET vs. Tunisia. #Noles

    4. Preciate it. I was aware but work Sundays so didn't see it. Apparently him and Phil Dalhausser have a long history going back nearly 15 years. Both are Florida boys, though Dalhausser went to UCF. (Freshly learned facts from the google machine.)

I *did* know this already, though not until recently: Lucena is married to FSU's new beach volleyballe coach. It makes me wonder what exactly went down behind the scenes a year ago when Corso wasn't retained.
