New location for new FSU School?

By January, construction begins for a sleek six-story office building with a ground level dedicated to a high-end restaurant and roof-top terrace. (Photo: Courtesy of Lewis + Whitlock)
The retail federation's white building parcel is on the market for $1.5 million, said spokesman James Miller. The federation also owns two adjacent parcels — a 7,290 square-foot parking lot and 6,148 square-foot building on Jefferson Street, across from Kleman Plaza.
“We’ve always wanted to tear that building down,” he said. "We wanted to do two things: Get rid of the eyesore and make it more enticing for a prospecting buyer.”
The federation would prefer to sell all three parcels, however, the group opted to divide the properties. The parking lot is under contract. Prospective buyers could snag the white building property and the Jefferson Street parcel.
Passersby have been curious about the demolition of the 1940s era building that was once home to a Piggly Wiggly and Colonial Grocery. It was also used as a dry cleaners and later by the Judicial Administration Commission.

“Whatever is built there will be an improvement over the eyesore that is the white building," Miller said, "and it will be a benefit to Tallahassee’s continued downtown improvement."
