...a sizeable chuck of the NCAA tournament credits earned by Syracuse and Louisville still goes to the American Athletic Conference? In fact, the AAC got more money from NCAA credits earned by the Orange and the Cardinals than the ACC did! (see graph). That's because these credits pay out over a 6-year period, and those teams were in the Big East (progenitor of the AAC) at the time.
Syracuse and Louisville together left 21 credits behind, and Pitt and Notre Dame left another 3. Had these credits followed them to the ACC, the graph would have looked like this:
