FSU Trustee meeting Feb 2018

http://wfsu.org/archives/fsu-board-of-trustees-2018-02-23.php

-New road through southwest campus

-Top 100 donors account for 80% of monies brought to FSU (and other schools normally)

-Met 12 of 12 preeminence metrics again

-Student to Faculty ration is 22-1.  'Not great' but they are working to improve (takes $).

-Library ranked #51, it is 'lacking' and holding FSU back in top 25 goal.  Big budget issues here.

-Research numbers not doing well.

-St Joe donated 4 acres to marine lab for research.

-Cool info above.

-Big issue was greek life changes.....TBD.

* Wilcox begins by talking about the "Herculean job" Willie Taggart did in getting the Class of 2018 signed and also putting together his coaching staff.
* Wilcox said Taggart and his staff are proud of this class. But he said Taggart told him, "Next year, we're going to be No. 1." Wilcox says he wouldn't doubt him.
* Mentions that Taggart held a reception this week for all of the staff members who helped with this recruiting class. Says it's never happened before. The staff was very appreciative.
* Also says that Taggart has met with Populus, the group that is doing the research study on the football facility. He gave his input on whether it should be a standalone facility or revamping of the Moore Center.
* Points out that Taggart and his staff have met with many departments in the university already, and has made a point to visit with Bobby Bowden, Charlie Ward and other Seminole greats.
* Giving some updates on NCAA developments ... possible transfer rules changes, the redshirt rule, etc.
* President Thrasher mentions that he'll be at an ACC meeting next week discussing legislation. Adds that he will be taking over as Chair of the ACC Presidents Council (it rotates to the various schools). All the ACC presidents will be in Tallahassee in September for the annual meeting.

  1. 22:1 is a huge improvement over the 26:1 it was a couple years ago. If they can just get the student to faulty ratio down to 19:1 in the next 5-10 year's that would be pretty huge.

    1. Agreed. I am thrilled they are focused on it.

  2. Lower student:faculty, improved retention, improved grad rate, largest applicant pools ever (by huge margins), ~30 spot jump in US news rankings...

So it's possible for FSU to make big jumps.

Now let's FINALLY focus on the damn endowment and research figures!
