Mind you, there is no high end limit on the number of members who could be enshrined every year, but somehow, many of the greatest players I’ve observed in 25 years covering college football just don’t make muster.
My gripes won’t even tread into the absurdity of five Heisman Trophy winners not being in the Hall – Rashaan Salaam, Chris Weinke, Eric Crouch, Jason White and Troy Smith.
What are we doing here?
Heisman winners who won national titles. Legends to a man and somehow not Hall-worthy?
No school has more snubs than Florida State. The slights go well beyond Weinke.
Cornerback Terrell Buckley was a unanimous first-team All-American in 1991 and won the Thorpe Award. He is among the five or six best college cornerbacks I’ve seen in the past quarter-century and one of the best punt returners as well. Not good enough.
Again, at least he’s on the ballot, which is more can be said for Marvin Jones, the best linebacker I’ve ever seen play college football. Others not on: Andre Wadsworth, the best pass-rusher I’ve ever seen play college football, and Sebastian Janikowski, the best college kicker I’ve ever seen, as well as Peter Warrick, Warrick Dunn and Corey Simon.
Deion, Charlie Ward and Derrick Brooks are in, but FSU’s 14 dynasty years surely produced more than three hall-of-famers.
