administrators at Florida State University Panama City announced an "Engineering the Future" endowment for its new Mechanical Engineering program.

The endowment fund has a goal of $1 million and was made possible by commitments from the Gulf Power Foundation and St. Joe Community Foundation.

"We are so proud to offer this much-needed program, but we recognize that we need scholarships to recruit and retain students and funding for updated labs and professional development opportunities for both students and faculty," Dean Randy Hanna said in a press release. "This endowment will provide annual funding for these needs and will continue to support the program for years to come."

The endowment will allow the fund to grow perpetually.

With this latest commitment, both the Gulf Power Company and the St. Joe Company Foundations will have given nearly $2 million cumulatively to the school.

The FAMU-FSU Mechanical Engineering Program will expand outside of the Tallahassee campus starting in Fall 2018.
