Is the 9 game football schedule, ACC basketball schools are pushing, good for FSU?
http://floridastate.247sports.com/Board/36/Contents/Teel-How-a-9-game-ACC-schedule-could-work-45890891?Notification.Success=55Nole+Reply+has+been+successfully+updated.#M45891118
"This article is so oversimplified. First of all, a ninth home game doesn't replace UTC or Charleston Southern, because every other year, that game would be on the road, meaning we would have one less home game in those years, so you're wrong, it doesn't replace those FCS games. Secondly, by forcing us to have 5 road games a season, (5 ACC RG's and then 4+UF), it means you can never really schedule a home and home series with anyone ever again. Those are kind of going away anyway, but still, we never could do that anymore. And if you wanted to schedule a neutral site game, you would have to go down to only 6 home games per season. So in essence, playing an extra game against Virginia, UNC, or Pitt, means we can't schedule Ole Miss, Alabama, Oklahoma State, etc. in the future. For the ACC teams it may be better, but for FSU, our schedule suffers by adding Duke and removing a tough neutral site opponent. In terms of that article though, Charleston Southern would still be on the schedule, it is Ole Miss who would be removed!
Also he says ESPN would give us more money to make up for one less home game. Well is that money going to make up for one of Duke's home games, or Boston College's home game, or will it be enough to cover a Florida State home game? Because we are bringing in probably over double the amount of money that those schools bring in for a home game, but when ESPN "covers the cost" are we going to get double the money? No. Lastly, he talks about how we could play more teams from the Coastal more often. I have two things to say to that... 1. I don't think FSU fans give two sh!ts about playing Virginia Tech or Pittsburgh more often; and 2. If you wanted teams in the same conference to play each other more often, you would just make the ACC one giant division, and at the end of the season, whatever two teams have the best record, play each other. This allows for way more freedom in scheduling, and we could have every team in the conference EVERY OTHER SEASON.
Anyway, this article was a joke and expanding to 9-games is good for the all the crap teams that already get more money than they deserve and bad for teams like FSU, Clemson, and probably Miami as well."

"
My thoughts on this crap:
1. If FSU and Clemson lose a home game every 2 years that brings in $3+M in revenue, is the ACC going to pay FSU and Clemson $1.5M *more* than the rest of the ACC in order to compensate us for our loss? Or are FSU and Clemson just going to have to eat it? If an ACC Network pays $6M/year, FSU and Clemson would only come out ahead $9M over those 2 years, while a school like Wake Forest might earn the full $12M. Why would anybody think it's a good idea to steal from your best football schools in order to subsidize the crap ones?
2. Why does the ACC *have* to expand to 9 games? The SEC didn't have to in order to get a network. Are we guaranteed to have higher payouts for the ACC Network than the SEC Network? Doubtful. I'm not even convinced moving to 9 games would even bring ACC Network payouts up to par with the SEC Network. I think the ACC will still be behind. And I think if the SEC ever does expand to 9 games, they'll leapfrog way out in front of the ACC again.
3. Does ESPN want *more* ACC games? HELL NO, they don't. They are crapping their pants in agony over the thought of more Virginia vs Wake Forest and Boston College vs Duke games. HOORAY, ACC! What ESPN wants is BETTER matchups and MORE of them. So let's change the divisions or move to pods to fix the scheduling issue.
4. Oh, wait. The ACC has time and time again voted against fixing the divisions or switching to something better like pods. Why? Because the Coastal division basketball schools like how things are setup currently. They like the relative close proximity of the Coastal schools with only recruiting-rich Miami being the outlier. They like not having to travel to BOTH of the northernmost schools and weak recruiting grounds on a regular basis like FSU and Clemson have to. They don't mind bogarting the Virginia region by having both VA schools in the same division even though the other 2 states with multiple schools are split up between the divisions. They see nothing wrong with FSU rarely facing the nearest ACC school to Tallahassee.
This conference is a joke. David Teel is a moron but he does have some ACC sources. And Wilcox is worthless as our AD; Spetman 2.0."

And the ACC revenue gap continues to grow....
You can bet money that a weak ACC Network offer will be tied to a long term TV contract locking in the ACC as DISTANT payout to the Power 2.
The ACC will declare it a victory, but it will be a long term blow to the VERY few football schools in the ACC. To make it worse, it will force a 9 game schedule. You can see the ACC media blitz already working to sell the 9 game schedule and how this will be good for the ACC.
This will be a blow to FSU Football for sure, but like the weak FSU leadership of the past, you will see them declare it a victory.
As Lou states below....if the ACC weren't dead last all the time, it would be wise for them to wait and rebid the contract on an open market (of course, the last time the ACC had that chance, all they cared about was Swofford's son).

I see here that the PAC's Larry Scott feels the same way I do about things.
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegespor...-model-us/
It's not really apples to apples, but the idea holds. You can get a few million more dollars now, or you can be a free agent down the line.
I personally would like the ACC not to extend their deal and go on the market at the end of the contract, and that looks like what the PAC will do, rather than selling off part of it's network.
Many industry analysts with zero stake in the race have told me in recent years that the Pac12Nets are, at best, a mild success.
So why does Scott consider the current model optimal?
Because of these seven words:
“We are taking the longer-term view.”
And because of this:
“I look at my role as the steward of the value of the content for the members.”
Scott is aware of the fan (and campus) frustrations with Pac12Nets distribution and revenue. But whether you agree or not, his priority is the long haul – and the presidents and chancellors support that approach.
Scott believes the windfall worth waiting for, even if it means the Pac12Nets distributions lags those of the B1G and SEC networks by $50 million (or more) annually.
*** What does the long haul mean?
It could mean up to eight more years. The current Tier 1 deal with ESPN and FOX expires in the summer of 2024. When that happens, the conference will take everything it owns to the market.
In Scott’s view, the confluence of rising demand for live sports (good insight here) … and changes in media landscape … and demand for Pac-12 content … will work to create a bonanza for the conference at the negotiating table with fill-in-the-blank (ESPN, FOX, Hulu, Facebook, Google, etc).
“We want to create the most long-term value,” he said. “That’s the mission.”
Is that the right move? Scott and his consultants believe it is. There’s no way to know for sure, of course. One could argue that an unforeseen development in the ever-changing landscape could leave the Pac-12 in a sub-optimal situation. "

How FSU Fared Across the Board Against In-State Rivals
http://www.thedailynole.com/content.php/781-How-FSU-Fared-Across-the-Board-Against-In-State-Rivals
"Nine sports in total have specific match-ups where the Seminoles square off with either or both rivals. Obviously, some sports will have multiple games just by the nature of the schedule, while others will have only one contest. This also means that all losses are not created equal. Whereas a loss in football might have derailed the end of the season for Florida State, a mid-season loss for baseball would not. Here's a look how FSU fared in each sport against both Florida and Miami with some perspective to follow:
Football: 1-0 (Florida), 1-0 (Miami)
Baseball: 1-5 (Florida), 2-2 (Miami)
Men's Basketball: 1-0 (Florida), 0-2 (Miami)
Women's Basketball: 0-1 (Florida), 2-1 (Miami)
Men's Tennis: 0-1 (Florida), 0-1 (Miami)
Women's Soccer: 0-1 (Florida)
Women's Softball: 0-2 (Florida)
Women's Tennis: 0-1 (Florida), 0-1 (Miami)
Women's Volleyball: 0-2 (Florida), 1-1 (Miami)
Total Combined Against Florida: 3-13
Total Combined Against Miami: 6-8
Total Combined Against Rivals: 9-21
The "big three" sports are typically football, men's basketball, and baseball. These three sports generally bring in the most revenue for their respective schools and attract the most viewers. In this aspect, Florida State has apparently done well.
It won both its football and basketball games against the Gators this year. The former a 27-2 embarrassment in Gainesville, the second a nail-biting 73-71 highlighted by a game-winning jumper from Dwayne Bacon. Baseball is where Florida has a decisive edge in the category, as FSU didn't get its first win over the Gators until the NCAA Super Regional match-up before ultimately dropping two of three.
In a sense, this might distort the numbers a bit. Football and basketball only played Florida once, while baseball played the Gators six times. So the official record of the big three is 3-5, yet the Seminoles have the advantage in two of the three sports.
It's largely the same story for their match-ups against Miami, except now basketball is the one who disappoints. FSU lost twice to the Hurricanes -- one being a blowout and the other a close loss in Tallahassee. Baseball was a draw, and football extended its streak over Miami to six with a thrilling 29-24 victory this year at home. This time, the overall record (3-4) is a bit closer to conveying the results of the big three sports contests.
Athletic programs however, are bigger than just the top three. This is where FSU really drops the ball against its rivals. Women's basketball is the only other program that got more than one win against a rival this year and the only other sport to get even just a single win was women's volleyball. By and large, non-big three sports performed poorly against in-state rivals.
Some of them need to be taken in context however. The focus in tennis seems to be much more on tournaments and regional competitions, not so much on individual schools battling against each other. So while fans might view the 0-4 record in both men and women's tennis as deflating, it just doesn't have the same rivalry weight that the other sports do.
The records also do not necessarily align with the overall success of each team. For example, FSU women's basketball had the deepest postseason run of the three schools, getting all the way to the Sweet 16 before being eliminated. Both Miami and Florida were knocked out in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The same goes for women's soccer, who made it to the College Cup after a championship year in 2014. Neither Florida or Miami matched such success.
Relevant news came earlier in the week when Florida's athletic director Jeremy Foley announced that he had chosen to retire after 25 years on the job. Foley was widely-regarded as one of the most successful athletic directors in the country, and the rise of Florida's athletics can be directly attributed to him. His departure leaves a serious hole for Florida to try and replace him.
Miami on the other hand, has just made more direct changes, like hiring Mark Richt as head football coach. There is slightly less uncertainty in Coral Gables in terms of future leadership, as the Hurricanes seem to be on the upswing at least when it comes to the three big sports.
Either way, Florida State's performances against their rivals this year left something to be desired. Single games are not especially indicative of a team's talent of course. Only in sports like baseball do we have multiple opportunities to see just how much better or worse one team is from the other. Fans however, still wish that there would have been more success against Miami and Florida for the 2015-16 academic year than there was.
The good news is that many of these teams are very close in ability to either rival. Naturally, this means that the year-to-year results for each individual team can have much more variance. The talent is there, as is the coaching. It's just about the individual game plan for whoever each team is facing. The Seminoles have a lot of talent coming back across the board for next academic year and hopefully for FSU, the rivalry results will be better."

ACC Bastketball leadership runs ACC Football with 9 game schedule coming
Funny how pro ACC fans critique the Big 12 that it is run by Texas. Well, in the ACC Tobacco Road runs everything....even Clemson and FSU football....whether they like it or not.
So look for the ACC to force the few football schools into a situation where they lose the most money so basketball schools can pocket the most profit.....again.
