A few ticket numbers: FSU has sold 4K to spring game, not including students; sold over 20K for season-opener vs. Boise State in Jax; season-ticket renewal rate near 70 percent; sold-out block allotment (450) for NCAA tourney opener vs. Vermont in Hartford, Conn.

FSU season ticket update. Only Sold 32,000 season tix last year. At 40% of that right now. 😂😂😂— Chris Martin (@chrismartin1974) February 22, 2019
12,800 season tickets sold as of now. That is unreal.— Chris Martin (@chrismartin1974) February 22, 2019
I wonder how many fans will buy BOTH season tickets AND tickets to the Boise State game?
ReplyDeleteHaving the BSU game in Jacksonville could hurt season ticket sales - or it could result in even more revenue. Do you have any feel which way it's trending at this point?
I don't know the numbers. The folks I listen to and trust seem to all agree this was a very bad move for season tix sales. There is no way to prove it though. This was a nonsensical move made by FSU's president because he was empowered and felt like it. This is one example of why I have a problem with FSU's strategy of having a president run the football program. It will cost FSU millions when it can least afford it. Sadly, FSU fan base runs on emotion and they dont' care because they like the president. There is no logic there, but that is how they think (or emote).
DeleteHere is some related thoughts for you Mark from an FSU insider that posts on some message boards:
Delete"I've heard multiple FSU media say moving Boise to Jacksonville was Thrasher's doing. For his hometown region.
Problem being, it totally decimated our actual home schedule during the wrong year. You do a move like that in even numbered years when both uf and Clemson are in Tallahassee, not odd numbered years.
Spetman and Wilcox were both in over their heads. Spetman was one of Wetherell's numerous blunders. Wilcox was a failed attempt by Barron to get FSU into the ACC inner circle and advance basketball at FSU (new practice facility, attendance improvements, etc). While Wilcox didn't do much of either, Barron was the one who started the whole "Top 25" initiative for FSU and oversaw the first few years of improvement prior to Thrasher coming in and continuing things. So I'll forever credit, and be thankful to Barron for that.
About Thrasher acting as AD. I believe he wants to. It's not something he reluctantly does out of necessity, imo."
Good stuff, Z. Makes sense to do this only in even numbered years, like you said. More power to them selling a home slate of ULM, Louisville, NC State, Syracuse and Alabama State. The Miami game is like a one-game home season - and you can only charge so much for that.
DeleteYup. FSU's big issue is, it puts it's $170 Million a year athletic program in charge with people who have 0 experience but are politically connected. Jimbo left, in part because of that (not the biggest part, granted). FSU's is going to struggle for a long while, in part, due to that. FSU may not have the $$$$ to recover from it.
