UPDATE: Great article from accfootballrx that makes a common mistake noting ACC TV contract and the 80/20 rule.

What was the common mistake? As these articles touch on....

The common mistake is that, the ACC pretty consistently is the 3rd highest viewed conference (with some exceptions, but on average, 3rd) when you add in both major sports. But it's TV contract is DEAD LAST....and the gap is huge, unlike the TV ratings gap.
The consistent refusal to just admit, it is a crap TV contract and it's a problem is the FIRST problem the ACC needs to address, but refuses to.
The other major mistake, is those who don't want to acknowledge a crap TV contract also don't want to admit that the same people who signed the ACC's life away are still in charge. That they are the same people that ignored the evidence, for decades, that football mattered at a 80/20 level and the ACC simply didn't like that reality and for the most part ignored it.......at least until it was too late.
First step anytime you have issues, is first admit the issues. The ACC and it's fan bases, just do NOT want to do that.
THAT is why it is dead last in payout and will remain that way for a long time.
Again, the ACC brings in the ratings, ESPN just won't pay the ACC for it.
Worst TV contract folks.....

If there was any doubt the ACC is the most popular basketball conference going, the past 2 weeks only confirmed the ACC is still #1 in popularity.
The ACC Tournament Championship between North Carolina and Virginia (March 10, 8:30 p.m.) delivered a Nielsen reported audience of 3,435,000 viewers, the most-watched game of champ week across any network.
The Big 12 Championship between West Virginia and Kansas (March 10, 6 p.m.) delivered a Nielsen reported audience of 2,852,000 viewers,
Selection Sunday featured the SEC Championship between Kentucky and Tennessee (March 11, 1 p.m.), which averaged 2,553,000 viewers

The Big 10 couldn’t have been too thrilled about the regular season game between Duke and UNC getting higher ratings the same weekend of the Big 10 Title Game too.
I tried to find the Pac 12 Championship game game ratings but so far I haven’t been able to. It may come out later this week, but it’s unlikely it’s viewership was anywhere near the ACC’s as in the previous 10 years the Pac 12 never cleared 3 Million viewers.
Why should espn pay more for the acc when the acc is content with its shit contract?
ReplyDeleteYup. Why is FSU, which is part of the ACC, content? It is a stupid mindset that I don't get. Money is a problem. Stop ignoring that and the TV contract.
