The door on national football titles

I hope this isn't true.

The two most recent “new” champions, Florida and Florida State, took advantage of a huge demographic shift in this country, which ballooned the population of the Sunshine State, turning it into a recruiting hotbed. Access to top talent, along with the resources and prestige of Power Five conference membership, obviously would be a huge consideration when considering if a “new” program could win a title.
Who possesses Power Five resources and prestige plus top recruiting turf? Look to the ACC.
The states of North Carolina and Virginia have a combined six programs with Power Five membership – all in the ACC – along with home turf ranked among the 10 most talent-rich states in the nation for college football recruiting.
Anyone think Wake Forest or Duke is winning a national championship in football? Doubtful.
What about the Tar Heels, Wolfpack, Hokies or Cavaliers? Again, doubtful, although not totally out of the question, I suppose.
Virginia Tech in 1999 and Oregon in 2010, both of which advanced to the national championship game, have come closest to becoming college football’s latest “new” team to win a championship. In the 16-year BCS era, those were the only teams to participate in the championship game that hadn’t already won a national title before the BCS began in 1998.
Oregon, similarly, is the only team to participate in the CFP that hasn’t won a national championship.
The reality: There isn’t nearly as much parity in college football as some might want you to believe. And it doesn’t look as if that is going to change.
