ACC Network ESPN Impact news?

John Ourand @Ourand_SBJ 1 hour ago
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU lost 600,000 homes each last month. Network calls it an "historic anomaly for the industry."

  1. Perhaps the REASON they agreed to launch the ACC Network is because they knew they were losing subscribers to their other channels, so they needed a new revenue stream to make up for it?

    1. Perhaps. But that's a dumb business plan. "Let's create more of what people don't want and are getting rid of." Short-term fix for a larger problem.

Given that it's ESPN's only way to increase revenue, it's why I've been saying the ACCN is an abject failure if it doesn't get the same widespread distribution as the SECN. If the two are not paired up with roughly identical distribution and conference payouts.

I don't think there's any imminent demise of ESPN. Although I wouldn't be opposed to it all crumbling. I'd rather not have to keep up with the Jones' to the extent that everyone is now. I'd rather schools not spend hundreds of millions on facility upgrades and then claim poverty. I'd rather multiple coaches on some teams not get paid millions of $ per year while these kids don't. Etc, etc.

But an anomaly? Haha. No. People are tired of paying $10+ months just for the ESPN bundle of channels.

    2. Maybe....I have ZERO idea what is going to happen and I don't make predictions anymore on it. Just post info on it.
