FSU Research leads to company expansion

On Tuesday, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of an expansion project at Danfoss Turbocor, the world's leading producer of energy compressors.
Local government and business professionals marked the expansion of Danfoss Turbocor — the world's leading producer of energy-saving compressors — during Tuesday's groundbreaking ceremony at the company's Tallahassee headquarters.
The project calls for the construction of a 40,000-square-foot building, including a 22,000-square-foot advance development laboratory — estimated to cost $14 million.
Once complete, the addition will serve as a research and development lab behind the company's main 65,000-square-foot facility on a 9.2-acre lot in Innovation Park. The headquarters is slated to receive an additional 25 jobs, 10 of which will be high-wage positions.
“This is going to create the infrastructure we need to collaborate with our customers and research institutions like Florida State University, for example. This collaboration should drive innovation solutions to improve energy efficiencies in air conditioning systems,” said Ricardo Schneider, president and CEO of Danfoss Turbocor Compressors Inc. "This application development center is a state of the art laboratory.”
In addition, he said, one of the main reasons the company is located in Tallahassee is because of fertile opportunities to collaborate with the local universities for research and engineering resources.
