Florida State President Shares Goals for the University
"Florida State's President John Thrasher spoke this afternoon about the main goals for the University in front of the Economic Club of Florida.
Today's topic at the event was "Florida State University: A Preeminent University on the Rise."
Thrasher gave his presentation to the club at 12:00 p.m. today in the FSU Alumni Center.
During the presentation, he mentioned a campaign at FSU to raise $1 billion from donors, along with the need for faculty recruitment.
Thrasher also went into further detail about FSU's goal of becoming a Top 25 public school in the coming years. He said this year's freshman class is evidence the school is moving in the right direction, despite bad press over the past year.
"In spite of all of that, with this years incoming freshman, we had more applications, first and for-most this year than we did the last year," Thrasher said. He added this incoming freshman class came in with higher SAT scores and a higher grade-point averages than previous years, saying the school is "attracting some of the best and brightest young people in the state of Florida."
At the event, Thrasher also mentioned one the students injured in November's shooting at Strozier Library. He said Ronny Ahmed, who was paralyzed from the waist down following the shooting, would be returning to school soon.
Thrasher confirmed the University is making sure the campus is ready and equipped for his arrival."
