2013-14 Revenues by Conference

Love this break out.  I am always amazed at how I never see the mainstream media try to break out the revenue numbers like this...ie accurately.

Solid break down.  Again, ACC Network has to happen.

2013-14 Revenues by Conference

"For the first time in maybe ever the ACC has released revenue sharing numbers immediately after the end of the fiscal year. So, shortly on the heels of teams releasing 2012-13 financial data, the ACC has now released 2013-14 data as well. As expected, the league set a new record (like the other P5 conferences) for revenue distributed: $291.7 million, or about $20.8M each for the 14 full members.

As David Teel pointed out, that doesn't factor in the ACC HQ's cut (the $291.7M was reported as revenue, not distributed); however, Mr. Teel then makes the mistake of assuming 10% for the ACC, when in reality it is and always has been equal to one team share, which now equates to about 6.6% (with 14 teams also getting full shares and Notre Dame getting a 0.2 share). With that in mind, this is how the ACC shares compare to the other P5 conferences (all numbers in $million):

* note: some media outlets are reporting the Big XII payout at $23M per team - but that's only for 8 of the teams. TCU and WVU only get $14M this year. If you average 23, 23, 23, 23, 23, 23, 23, 23, 14 and 14 you get 20.1, which is what I show above.

The SEC reported slightly higher per team payouts than a straight 15-way split would indicate. This is probably due to the fact that the SEC office takes a full share of TV and some other revenues, but does not take a share of bowl revenue. It is reported that the average SEC payout was actually $20.9M, or about $300,000 more.

BOTTOM LINE:

The ACC payout is nearly identical to what the SEC and Big XII reported, but trails the 2 leagues which have established conference TV networks - the Big Ten and the Pac-12. As Mr. Teel points out in his article, the ACC really needs one of those to keep up. I give it a 3-year window to get it done.
