FSU Football spending falls in rankings

FSU football salaries rank high in ACC but lag behind Clemson, SEC, Big Ten

Head coach Mike Norvell's scheduled salary of $4 million in 2020 barely ranks in the top 25 percent of all FBS head coaches -- with most of the highest-paid coaches coming from those two aforementioned leagues. Meanwhile, the salary pool for FSU's assistant coaches ranks second in the ACC and a very respectable 15th nationally.

Based on the terms of his contract, Norvell was scheduled to rank 30th nationally in salary this year. But after taking a voluntary reduction to offset losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Norvell actually will end up making just over $3.5 million, which ranks 39th.

With his reduced salary, Norvell sits fifth in the ACC.

Norvell's original salary would rank 12th in the Southeastern Conference; it falls to 13th when the pandemic reduction is taken into account. His deal would tie for 11th in the Big Ten.

FSU's assistant coaches -- as a staff -- fare better much from a national perspective.

The Seminoles don't have one of the nation's 50 highest-paid coordinators individually, but they rank 15th overall in staff compensation (not including private schools, such as Notre Dame, Miami, etc).

As a group, FSU's assistants would rank fourth in the Big Ten and ninth in the SEC.

USA Today also charted salaries for football strength coaches, and FSU's Josh Storms ranked fifth in the ACC at $300,000 per year. Clemson led the conference in pay for that position at $600,000, while Florida pays $450,000.

Future of FSU baseball & FOF?

All just a dream for FSU, but what this thread doesn't say is that the most likely scenerio for a Football Only Facility (FOF) is for Moore to be renovated.  I believe if done well, is the best option for FSU, but I still dream of FSU make the move below for the baseball facility.

Future of FSU FOF?

I have an extremely reliable person I have known for a long time tell me moving Howser is back on the table. Was told this last week. I don’t want to divulge too much and compromise their identity but there is some really cool stuff being talked about right now. I fully believe Howser will be moved to the IM fields. Believe me, don’t, I don’t care, just don’t @ me bro

Whatever FSU does, the goal is to do something that has lasting power. Doesn’t just satisfy the momentary need.

Moving Howser to collegetown with the outfield facing madso/recess would also instantly create one of the best game day environments in college baseball

Warwick has already sat down with Coburn. The plan is to let the coaches coach one spring to get a better feel for existing facilities, flow etc. Then revisit the drawings after spring to see what, if any, changes need to be made. FSU is fully committed to getting this built. They were about $10 million short from being able to break ground on $60 million "Taggart" FOF.

Topic will be revised after the spring and discussed with Norvell to see what he wants. Honestly, it's not a huge priority despite what Jimbo kept insisting.

Think there's a decent chance they might decide to upgrade Moore instead of building a new standalone complex. The standalone would be build in an odd location, cost more and duplicate much of what they already have in Moore. Really doesn't make any sense to build a new building but it was pushed forward that way because of Jimbo thought it was so important. Not sure the current staff or admin feels that way.

Who all uses the current facility? If Moore is upgraded for a "football only facility" will or where should the other facility be erected?Tully. If FSU decided to go this route, it would overhaul/upgrade both Moore and Tully. Haven't seen the numbers but I've been told this option could be accomplished for the same total price tag, if not less, than just building just the standalone football complex.

So Moore option is upgrade for Tully also?Don't have all the answers since much of this is still TBA and as of right now the original plan of a standalone is still option A. But my understanding is that if they were to do it at Moore, then the Olympic Sports would move to Tully and it would also be massively overhauled (Needed anyway).

Those of you that think it's a cheap cop out to upgrade Moore instead of doing the standalone couldn't be more wrong. From what I've heard it would look incredible (better than the standalone) and have some amazing features including a huge recruiting deck under the scoreboard overlooking Doak.

Innovation Park news

Danfoss to expand Tallahassee manufacturing facility, expected to create 239 jobs

Danfoss Turbocor announced plans to expand its Tallahassee manufacturing facility, and it expects the investment to create 239 new manufacturing and research jobs, according to a press release from the Tallahassee Office of Economic Vitality.

The new production facility is expected to break ground at Innovation Park in 2021, the release says. With the multi-million dollar capital investment, the current Danfoss facility will expand an additional 65,000 to 90,000 square feet on 16 acres of land, the OEV says.

Danfoss’ claim to fame is the world’s first oil-free magnetic bearing compressor for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry, according to the release.

Danfoss Turbocor Compressors President Ricardo Schneider says he is optimistic about the expansion.

“This area affords us tremendous opportunity to collaborate with world-class researchers in aerodynamics, power electronics, and magnetic technologies — and we have a strong partnership with Florida State University and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, which have been instrumental in helping Danfoss engineer world-class technology that addresses critical energy issues around the world,” says Schneider.

The release says an impact analysis from the FSU Center for Economic Forecasting and Analysis indicates the expansion could create upwards of 953 new jobs and generate around $140 million in economic output for the Tallahassee and Leon County area in the long run.

ACC FCG the most-viewed conference championship game this year,

2020 ACC Championship Most-Viewed in ACC FCG History

The 2020 ACC Football Championship Game between the Clemson Tigers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish was the most-viewed football championship game in ACC history, with a peak of 11,646,000 viewers from 5:15 to 5:30 pm. In fact, it was the 2nd-most-viewed college football game of the season across all networks. That made the ACC FCG the most-viewed conference championship game this year, making it the first time in 13 years that ABC had the highest-rated conference championship game.

Interesting numbers.  I wonder if the alliance with ESPN and SEC grows, TV money for P2 increases, and the lack of parity increases we don't see more of this.

2020-21 College Football Playoff Revenue

2020-21 College Football Playoff $

The partnership forged for this one football season, which allowed Notre Dame to schedule 10 conference games with ACC opponents, included an agreement for the school to share its $15 million annual NBC television revenue with the conference for home games, in addition to sharing in the ACC’s television revenue. As it turns out, that agreement also included sharing some College Football Playoff monies not normally shared between Notre Dame and the ACC.

Notre Dame enjoys a unique position in the College Football Playoff. This year, the Fighting Irish are set to receive $300,000 for meeting the NCAA’s APR standard, a base amount of $3.19 million (regardless of performance), plus $6 million for its selection in the semifinals. In contrast, the other independents share $1.56 million this year for their base amount in addition to the $300,000 per school APR payment.

The ACC, along with the other four conferences in the Power 5 (Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC), will earn the same $300,000 for each school which meets the APR standard. However, they each receive the much larger base amount of $66 million to split between member institutions.

For this year only, Notre Dame will share the $6 million for its semifinal appearance with the ACC. However, it will also be eligible for an equal share in the ACC’s pool of bowl revenue, which includes $6 million for Clemson’s appearance in the semifinals. The Fighting Irish will not share in the ACC’s $66 million base payment, nor will they share their $3.19 million base payment.

ACC

$66 million base payout (Notre Dame does not share)

$6 million for Clemson’s semifinal berth in the Sugar Bowl (Notre Dame does share)

$6 million for Notre Dame’s semifinal berth in the Rose Bowl (Notre Dame does share)

Big 12

$66 million base payout

$4 million for Oklahoma’s berth in the Cotton Bowl

$4 million for Iowa State’s berth in the Fiesta Bowl

Big Ten

$66 million base payout

$6 million for Ohio State’s berth in the Sugar Bowl

Pac-12

$66 million base payout

$4 million for Oregon’s berth in the Fiesta Bowl

SEC

$66 million base payout

$6 million for Alabama’s berth in the Rose Bowl

$4 million for Florida’s berth in the Cotton Bowl

$4 million for Georgia’s berth in the Peach Bowl

Notre Dame

$3.19 million base payout (not shared with the ACC)

While many have questioned whether the one-season partnership between the ACC and Notre Dame might lead to Notre Dame joining the conference as a full member, a look back at how Notre Dame has fared financially under the College Football Playoff still makes a case for independence thanks to its on-field performance.
